Course Description

Our two-day seminar encompasses disciplines of scent detection using the Behavioral Shaping Device (B.S.D.) Method. Our 16-hour basic trainers course will give the students the knowledge on how to properly select a K-9 for scent detection, imprint them on target odors using B.S.D. Technology, and teach them to train a K-9 to independently search operational areas.

This course was developed and is instructed by accredited law enforcement K-9 subject matter expert in scent detection. Classes are located at the Elite K-9 48-acre training facility in Paducah, KY, and the facility has: a scent detection imprint room, a 40-person classroom, a 12,000 sq. ft. training building, a large outdoor fenced training field, 12 vehicles for scent detection training, warehouses and open outdoor areas for searching, and multiple off-site training locations.

Instructor: Jeremy McLaughlin

Jeremy McLaughlin has 19 years of law enforcement experience and is well versed in training K9s in tracking, detection, and working personal protection dogs. He also provides training in the sports of Schutzhund, PSA, WDA, and Scent Work. This has allowed him to be aware and prepared for almost any scenario that may arise. His promise is to continue to train and educate in the most modern and positive methods available through competing with colleagues and constantly attending seminars.

His other qualifications include: AKC CGC Evaluator, AKC Scent Work Judge, NACSW Judge, CPE CSS Judge, and Drugbeat Evaluator, where he certifies professional K9 teams.He currently holds a bachelor’s in Criminal Justice/ Minor Psychology from Murray State University and a Masters in Criminal Justice Administration from Bethel University.
